Twitter/X's API remains valuable despite the access restrictions — the ability to post tweets, search public conversations, and access user follower graphs is unique to the platform. But the pricing model makes it prohibitive for indie developers and small teams. The free tier allows 1,500 posts per month read/write access. Basic tier ($100/month) increases limits. Enterprise access for full historical search, high-volume streaming, or compliance use cases runs $5,000/month. Choose Discord API for community bot development, gaming integrations, developer tool notifications, or any use case targeting a developer audience. Consider Twitter/X API only when the specific social data or posting capabilities it provides are a genuine product requirement, given the cost constraints.
